How to make your computer faster by defragmenting your hard disk using a free program called Defraggler

How fast a computer runs all depends on many different things like what hardware you have installed inside your pc, but you can also make sure your computer runs smooth by doing a few simple things one of them is defragmenting your hard disks. We all like to download things from the internet movies, songs, free software etc. all these go into your computer's hard disk and are scattered around it. Think of your hard disk as a pie chart if you have not ever defragmented it everything inside is one big mess if you had a pie chart like it you wouldn't be able to understand any of the information that it is showing you. Defragmenting makes your hard disk more tidy and it makes it easier for windows to find the files you want to open faster because it does not check for them everywhere.

Now let's download the free program that will help you defragment your hard disk go to www.piriform.com and choose the Download tab.

Scroll down and choose Defraggler.

You are given 2 download sites choose FileHippo.com bellow the download tab.

You will be taken to FileHippo.com on the top right corner you will see a green button Download the latest version click on it to start downloading.

Save the file to your desktop or anywhere else easy to find for you later.

Open the file to start installing the program click on Next.

Read the License agreement and click I agree to continue.

Click on Next.

Now choose if you want to install Google tool bar if you don't want it don't tick the box. Click Install.

Click on finish and you can start using the program. Finish.

In the Defraggler window you have the option to select which of you hard disks you would like to defragment so select the one you want from the top menu and then choose Analyze. Analyze will tell you if you need to defragment your hard disk at this time and if you do how heavy is the fragmentation on the hard disk in percentage.

Now you can choose how to defragment your hard disk quickly by going with the Quick Defrag option or if you have time choosing the default Defrag option which takes longer, but in my opinion much better for a first time defragmenting. Depending on your hard drive the longer Defrag option may take up to 2 hours so make sure you have the time because while Defraggler is doing its job working on the computer may not be an option. Click Defrag/Quick Defrag and wait for Defraggler to finish.

When Piriform Defraggler is finished its job your hard disk will be tidy and have no fragmentation. You can check that by doing another Analyze. You will notice increase in speed when you try to run programs because windows will now be able to search for them much faster after Defraggler has put your hard disk in order so enjoy it. If you are a heavy downloader repeat this process every month even if you are not but you notice your pc freezing on you and just acting sluggish do a Defrag always helps.
